Egarr Brings The Brandenburgs To Their Roots
$44.49 $31.49HAR: Egarr
Richard Egarr and the Academy of Ancient Music have endeavored to return to the original ‘chamber’ conception of the Brandenburg Concertos, with one player per part. Also of interest is Egarr’s choice to use French baroque pitch, which is nearly a full step lower than modern tuning. This change adds a remarkable richness to the sound and improves balances in some of the concertos.

Jadassohn & Draeseke: The Romantic Piano Concerto Vol. 47 $20.99 $16.99HYP: Romantic Piano 47
Though barely remembered now, both Salomon Jadassohn and Felix Draeseke were major figures in German musical life in the second half of the 19th century. While not ground-breaking, these concertos are thoroughly enjoyable examples of the genre. One must question why the Jadassohn works in particular, which have truly memorable themes, have been almost completely forgotten.
